Trip Injury Claim Settled for £210,000

A man who tripped over at work and suffered a broken foot has won £210,000 in damages.

The unnamed man, who had worked as a mechanical engineer for more than 30 years, was working on the refurbishment of a turbine at a power station. He tripped on an unguarded inspection window that was protruding six inches up from the ground.

In the fall, he sustained a complex fracture of the foot and had to have two operations to treat the injury. He was bedridden for six weeks and then had to learn to walk again, which took a year.

As a result of his injuries, the man walks with a limp and is no longer able to do the sort of work that his former job entailed. He now becomes tired easily and finds that many of the activities he used to enjoy are beyond his capabilities.

A claim was brought against the owners of the power station and its operators. Neither of the two companies involved admitted liability but, after a personal injury claim was commenced, they agreed to pay £210,000 in compensation.
